 Worth checking into

Hi from the YWCA Hotel
After the highly successful, energetic and fun-filled Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, it’s no surprise that Vancouverites are suffering from Post-Olympic Distress Disorder. However, the warm spring weather and the upcoming summer season are quickly lifting our spirits!

Here we’ll share the events that Vancouver has to offer and hidden Vancouver hints to give you ideas on how to spend your days in Vancouver. As always, our So you think you know us tests your knowledge of the Y while offering great prizes for the winners. Forward this newsletter to friends, family and co-workers and they can enter to win; more entries = more chances.

Our hidden Vancouver hints – from your Friends at the YWCA Hotel
Instead of opening another Vancouver brochure, let us be your “friend in town” and tell you about more secret spaces! Here are a few of those hidden gems in areas you might miss (bring an umbrella just in case!):

Deep Cove
Nestled in North Vancouver, Deep Cove is known for its water views and natural beauty. There are many trails available for you to take in the scenery. If you’re feeling adventurous, Deep Cove Canoe and Kayak Centre offers rentals, lessons and kayak and canoe tours! To see what Deep Cove has to offer, visit Deep Cove BC (http://www.deepcovebc.com/).

Richmond Summer Night Market
Summer night markets are a tradition in Vancouver, and the Richmond Summer Night Market is one of the biggest and most popular. There are many vendors selling many different items such as jewelry and stationery and there is nightly entertainment. However, the most popular attraction is definitely the food. From Chinese street food such as bubble waffles and dim sum to Japanese-style hot dogs and takoyaki to kettle corn and roasted corn on the cob, there is something for you and everyone, including little kids!

The summer night market will be open from May 21 to September 26, 2010. The website is under construction but check it out in the near future for more information visit Summer Night Market, Richmond BC (http://www.summernightmarket.com/index.php?lang=en).

Commercial Drive
Commercial Dr. or The Drive is a diverse, eclectic neighbourhood. The Drive is also known as Little Italy from its historic roots which can still be seen mixed with the many restaurants, shops and services available. If you’re craving an Italian dining experience, try a customized panini at La Grotta del Formaggio. Continental Coffee offers quality espresso drinks for a very low price and Dolce Amore offers many flavours of gelato – perfect to beat the summer heat while you stroll down The Drive. This neighbourhood is family-friendly and is easily accessible by SkyTrain. For more information and shop listings, visit The Drive (http://www.thedrive.ca/).
